Papal Altar Lot Liturgy

The Papal Altar Lot Liturgy that will take place in St. Mark’s Cathedral in Al Abbasiya, Cairo, Egypt on November 4, 2012 where the 118th Pope of Alexandria will be chosen from among three candidates.  The three candidates are:

  • H.G. Bishop Rafael
  • H.G. Bishop Tawadros
  • Hegomen Fr. Rafael Ava Mina

Coptic Papal Election Results

H.E. Metropolitan Pachomius, the Patriarchal Locum Tenens, announced the official results of the Coptic Papal Election.  The total number of eligible voters was 2,417.  161 voters were absent and 2 ballots were invalid making the actual number of votes 2,254 of the 2,417.  This represents an impressive 93.25% rate for voter turnout.  The votes received are as follows:

  1. His Grace Bishop Rafael (1,980 Votes)
  2. His Grace Bishop Tawadros (1,623 Votes)
  3. Fr. Raphael Ava Mina (1,530 Votes)
  4. Fr. Seraphim El-Souriani (680 Votes)
  5. Fr. Pachomious El-Souriani (305 Votes)
The top 3 (in order) being: H.G. Bishop Raphael, H.G. Bishop Tawadros, Fr. Rapahael Ava Mina
The Altar Lot will take place on November 4th.  At the conclusion of the liturgy prayed by Bishop Pachomious, a blindfolded child will pick the name of the next Pope from among these three candidates.

Jersey City Intersection Named “Pope Shenouda III Way”

Today Jersey City honored H.H. Pope Shenouda III by naming Vroom Street as Pope Shenouda III Way.  It was a great day celebrated by all the Copts of Jersey City.  Celebrating with us today was a large number of distinguished guests including: H.G. Bishop David, US Senator Robert Menendez, Mayor Jeremiah Healy, Councilman Steven Fullop, Councilwomen Nidia Lopez, etc…

O Pope Shenouda, please pray for us before the Lord’s throne that God may appoint for us a Pope, according to His choosing, to shepherd His people in purity and righteousness. Amen.
