H.E. Metropolitan Pachomius, the Patriarchal Locum Tenens, announced the official results of the Coptic Papal Election. The total number of eligible voters was 2,417. 161 voters were absent and 2 ballots were invalid making the actual number of votes 2,254 of the 2,417. This represents an impressive 93.25% rate for voter turnout. The votes received are as follows:
- His Grace Bishop Rafael (1,980 Votes)
- His Grace Bishop Tawadros (1,623 Votes)
- Fr. Raphael Ava Mina (1,530 Votes)
- Fr. Seraphim El-Souriani (680 Votes)
- Fr. Pachomious El-Souriani (305 Votes)
The top 3 (in order) being: H.G. Bishop Raphael, H.G. Bishop Tawadros, Fr. Rapahael Ava Mina
The Altar Lot will take place on November 4th. At the conclusion of the liturgy prayed by Bishop Pachomious, a blindfolded child will pick the name of the next Pope from among these three candidates.
