Coptic Papal Election Results

H.E. Metropolitan Pachomius, the Patriarchal Locum Tenens, announced the official results of the Coptic Papal Election.  The total number of eligible voters was 2,417.  161 voters were absent and 2 ballots were invalid making the actual number of votes 2,254 of the 2,417.  This represents an impressive 93.25% rate for voter turnout.  The votes received are as follows:

  1. His Grace Bishop Rafael (1,980 Votes)
  2. His Grace Bishop Tawadros (1,623 Votes)
  3. Fr. Raphael Ava Mina (1,530 Votes)
  4. Fr. Seraphim El-Souriani (680 Votes)
  5. Fr. Pachomious El-Souriani (305 Votes)
The top 3 (in order) being: H.G. Bishop Raphael, H.G. Bishop Tawadros, Fr. Rapahael Ava Mina
The Altar Lot will take place on November 4th.  At the conclusion of the liturgy prayed by Bishop Pachomious, a blindfolded child will pick the name of the next Pope from among these three candidates.
